Default Not baffling... Really

Got curious today and took the baffles outta my V&H BSS on my street bob. Took a little test ride the bike lost a good 30% of low end torque. Now I've been riding enough years and tinkered with enough bikes that I knew it would. Mostly just wanted to hear the pipes unbaffled really (didn't sound as good honestly, just a little louder) Picked up a little on the top end but not much. so let that be a lesson to the new riders, if your pipes have baffles leave them in, you will lose power. I ride more aggressive then 99% of the riders I know and still don't find the tiny pick up in the top end worth the loss of a good chunk of low end torque. Not really worthy of a new thread but I had to tell someone

Well...just to give a different view. I removed the baffles in my Rush Big Louie's and added DK thunder torque inserts to bring the low end torque back. Love the sound now.

See I thought about that... I mean a different baffle. But I never keep an exhuats for no longer than 1 riding season anyhow, so didn't figure they're was any need. She runs good the way it is and it'll be a different exhuast next year any how. Glad that the DK Thunder torques worked for you though. That gives me another option in case I decide to keep them a while

I've found the same, DK Custom W158 TTI's in V&H Big Shots Staggered with baffles removed, the sound is much deeper than stock, that bright rasp is gone and the low end and mid range is back; if you want to remove the stock baffles this is the only way to go!

Thunder Torques are an inexpensive solution to getting your low and mid range torque back but, i do understand if you change exhaust frequently. It is always good to know you have other options

Aren't the DK Thunder Torques just a different style baffle than the stock ones?

The TTI's are not like stock baffles. They are installed similarly, but the outcome is a huge difference. The type of material, shape, size, thickness, & surface coatings all make a difference in how well the Thunder Torque works at increasing exhaust gas velocity.

The TTI's obviously have their genesis in the simple lollipop concept. But they are quite a bit more, especially the W series.
Technically exhaust systems cannot increase or decrease an engine’s power. However, and this is a BIG however, exhausts systems can have a profound effect on increasing or decreasing engine pumping loss.

The Thunder Torque Inserts have a proprietary shape that is much better at increasing exhaust gas velocity, thereby reducing reversion, which reduces engine pumping losses, and increasing inertial scavenging. Net result is a significant increase in power & torque in the low and mid range Without sacrificing any top end.

I swap out my pipes after every ride over 20 miles.
