There is a reason no dealers really stock them...
if you're a bigger individual I'd definitely opt for a road king, the nicer shocks, dual disk brakes, oil cooler, and wider rear tire off the lot are worth the $1400 difference in price... to me they look pretty well the same but the RK has more room, sits about an inch taller, and weighs almost 100lbs more. I can see the switchback being discontinued because in a few years because most people think the few extras on a RK is worth the price for the upgrade and dismiss the weight difference.

funny you talk about dealers stocking them, I only saw TWO dynas (fat bob and a low rider) on my local dealer's floor last weekend. maybe 3 sportsters, a dozen softtails, and easily 20+ touring bikes. Asked my GF who works there after she got off about that and she said "the big touring bikes are whats selling now, like crazy. its all people are buying. And I have never seen a trike or a switchback on their show room floor.

you guys are at wrong dealers I guess... closest dealer to me has 3 switchbacks in stock at any one time and dealer I went to for my street glide deal had 2 that I saw on the floor could be you are looking across dealer floor and seeing switchbacks and confusing them for road kings because they do look alike also both dealers had a couple trikes including 1 freewheeler each..

furthermore I don't think moco is going to stop the switchback any time soon, it fits the bill for shorter people wanting the hard bags but not the weight and seat height and also fits the bill for older people that want to trade down from touring line but still keep hard bags and windscreen.. age is eventually going to get us all and anything that can keep you riding if you LOVE RIDING you will do.. there are many on the switchback site that traded in larger bikes and are completely happy with their choice..

When I bought mine, end of 2014 season sale, my dealer still had 5 or 6 in stock. The price was about $2K less than a RK, they didn't charge extra for special colors. They only had one left in Blackened Cayenne, which I took. They have a lot of Dynas in stock.

It wouldn't have been much of a stretch for me to buy a RK, but that wasn't what I wanted.

I wanted a DYNA. I wanted a Dyna with a 103 that I could set up for road trips. I suppose I could have bought a base model and started bolting on stuff, maybe I could have saved a few bucks. But IMO the Switchback is a very well thought out package.

That I can easily pull the bags and shield off of and boot around on a Dyna.

I read an article on the plan behind the design of the Switchback, one of their target markets was aging baby boomers. That is me. I'm 63, 5'7" about 160 pounds. I don't want another 100 pounds in the bike.

But maybe you're right, maybe the price point will cause HD to discontinue it. That's okay, I've got mine.
