Default V&H Quiet Baffles - WTF?

I've read so many good things about the so-called 'quiet' baffles, that I ordered a pair and they arrived yesterday. I haven't seen the original baffles in my Big Shots Staggered, so I can't compare the shape difference between the two, if any, HOWEVER: The new ones (quiet) have a thin sheet of what appears to be fiberglass material wrapped rather nonchalantly around them and held on with cellophane tape. WTF??? Is THAT all it is? And what's up with the scotch tape???

You guys with the quiets installed, is that what you got?!?!?

THANKS!

By the way - The part number I ordered is V21869.

Thats it. Just leave the tape in place and it won't be a problem. You will notice a difference. Not a lot quieter but, deeper tone.

looks like the cellotape will frazzle once the bike if fired up lol.
We shall see........

I also read that they only quieten the pipes by 5db which is nothing really , i read this after i ordered them btw.

Quiet baffles in mine, I prefer them over the original ones.

Lowers the tone a little, got rid of the popping....metalic banging sound.

Also richened things up a little, helped get my plugs looking like I want.

SOB -
You might want to safety wire the wrap. If you don't I'm guessin they will be a bitch to remove.

Anyway - I'm orderin mine on Monday - keep the post updated please!

I also want mine a bit quieter and richer - so sounds like a plus all around.

Also - possible to take the baffles out without takin the pipes off? I have an 05 with BSS which might be a bit different, but the baffle screw is covered by the heat shield, and it looks like loosening the shields may or may not give enough room?

Thanks -

I've heard that the tape is there just to make them easier to get in, then is supposed to disintergrate..

Yup - that's the way they come. Sound nicely deeper - a good HD rumble, way better than SE slip-ons IMHO. Have had quite a few ask me what I'm running after they heard them - very positive reaction and I love the sound - although NOT 'Quiet' by any means. Which is how it should be!!

I just put my "quiet " baffels in last night, Make sure you take a little more time and wrap the glass even a little tighter, or, it will snag on the nut welded to the inside of the pipe and bunch up, THEN you will be frustrated. Oh, don't worry about the smoke coming out of the pipes when you stop, and the smell you notice, it's probably the tape burning off.
