BTW My Road glide has a 103 in it and it is the hottest running engine I have ever seen in a bike.
You cannot do 88" to 103" with just bore.

The early 103" CVO engines had a different crank similar to the 96"/103" crank, and big bore.

The 110 has 96/103 crank and even bigger bore.

For 5K, you can have a lower end built to handle a true "big bore."
All this talk of 111" or 124" engines is for the junior league. How about a true big bore? How about 311"? Supercharged.
It isn't HD, nor any clone copy. It's a name brand too.
The USA has been using them for 70 years, so they're dead stone reliable. Now, you might need a new tranny for this torque level. Figure about 400 lb ft. Maybe 500, I don't know. I suggest a Muncie 4 speed.

Oh yeah, the engine maker? PRATT & WHITNEY

People won't just hear you a mile away, they'll feel you too!

You're both kinda right and kinda wrong. Let's explain it with actual specs. An 88 and 96 share the same 3.750" bore, 88 has a 4" stroke and 96 has 4-3/8". With the 88's 4" stroke you can go 95" (3.875 bore) or 98" (3.938") without boring cases. You can split and bore the cases and with the same 4" stroke go 100" (4.0" bore), 103 (4.060" bore), 107 (4.125") or even 114 (4.250"). The 103 is the 96's 4-3/8 stroke with the 95's 3.875 big bore. With that stroke you can also do 107 (3.938 bore), 110 (4.0"), 113 (4.060), 117 (4.125) and some others in between.

With that clarified, it depends what you're looking for. A healthy 98" big bore with headwork and cams could get you 110/110 for that $5k. That with a 30t front pulley would be a ripper. Leave the stock 6spd alone.
Or an s&s crate as already mentioned.

Yes I do know the combos having built a few. I should have specified Factory HD setup, Kellog's corn flakes variety moco stuff.

I remember when the "big" square 4" x 4" 100cid was all the rage in the early 2000's.

Nowday's with the T134 S&S and SE120/T111/124S&S it's all laughable what "big" really is.
