Default 88 vs 96

Guys Im looking at a 06' wideglide again, and want to know if the 88 engine has a noticeable power loss over the 96. I also have a 09'FXDC? I love the lines of the WG and am thinking hard about adding another bike to the stable.
Also, I've read about some inner primary bearing failures on the 06's can that be remedied with a chrome inner primary case that has the dowel pins?
Thanks in advance.

no real power loss...my bike had 77hp and 88 torque when dyno'ed with RSD intake and big radius(bike was running rich as well). I put up better #s than many a 96.

The 96 is just a stroked 88. Not that much of a difference. The IPB failures on the first 1/2 model 2006 dynas is caused by no dowel pins so you are correct. Add pins and you are good to go but read up on the repiars here because some guys do better with a different bearing than stock. 2006 dynas also have a crappy stator which should be replaced with the 07 welded design. Figure the cost of both before you buy.

88" runs cooler and power wise, HP is equal, TQ 5 extra lbs ft in the 96"... basically HD stroked the 88" to keep from losing power while meeting the 2007 EPA regs. Had they gone 95" (big bore), they'd have no SE BB kits to market and sell, by stoking the 88" to 96", it gives them 2 BB kit options 103" & 110"... smart marketing, but between the stroke increase and the O2 sensors/cats, the 2010's run hotter yet than even the 2007-2009's 96"'ers.

2006 is the first year of the 6 speed for the Dynas. My DWG has one. Yes it does have the TC88.

my 88 with pipes and intake would blow the doors off my buddies 96 (ok maybe not blow the doors off but it would pull on it) granted he was on a night train... but i am partial to the 88, i have seen to many issues with the 96 but if you want to build the motor, the 96 is a awesome platform as well to really get some power out of a HD motor
