I had an '06 Wide Glide before this '07 . Both bike ran very similar . Honestly , the 88" seemed to have the advantage in motor performance . The shorter stroke revved faster , and therefore got to the heart of the power band quicker . Plus it had the 70 tooth rear pulley , as opposed to the '07 and up , 66 tooth . Grant it , they have a history of primary , and stator failure . But... from reading on here , Harley has been covering the repair costs after the manufactures warranty expires . I'd buy a 2006 Dyna . For sure !

Replacing the inner primary housing alone will not allow you to use the dowels because the transmission case doesn't have holes for the dowels either. That being said the factory has been covering replacement of failed IPB and if they didn't it's not a very expensive repair. Probably about $300.00 if you payed someone to do it. If you get a good deal on it go for it. There are issues but none that can't be fixed easily. The '06 seems to be geared a little better for a better off the line performance but you can change that on a newer bike too.

I am biased but you cannot beat the 05 it is the last yr. for the reliability there will always be upgrades here and there, but alot are epa enodorsed grap, little things on a 05 versus say a 04 spokes are chrome not arcked, but i would never buy the first model of a major change 96 6 speed wait until they get all the kinks out be it a ford or chev always wait for the following year
