I would like to get some engine work done. More power, more torque. Don't really need it, but want it. I have the stage 1 kit with V&H BSS, SE 211 cams, and the V&H fuel pack. This is my question - What would be the next logical step, a stage II kit?, a big bore kit?, I'm not really sure of the difference. I've come to trust the answers and opinions of the people on this site more so than that of my stealer. I would appreciate anyone's response who has done or has had this type of work done on their SB. Also, what kind of $ will I be looking at? Thanks in advance for any and all help.
If you want to keep the engine together for the long run with the most power...
1) Intake and Exhaust, balanced. Match one to the other for power.
2) Performance electronics to match the above.
3) Don't alter the jugs, the new bore/stroke is perfect. (Opinion but backed by fact.)
1)Well, you could do more displacment, if you do add some compression and you will be there.
2)I would also consider different cams, ones that have a dual pattern on the lobes (also called asymitrecal) design, they will offer a broader power band.
Head-Quarters cams are like this.
3)Have your heads done with a reputable head porter. You could do this first and see what it feels like, this might be all you need!
I've been thinking of just cams and headwork myself, you already have the cams, might want to try either having your stock heads ported polished etc. or maybe get some high performance heads. Why not go big bore? me I'm thinking heat, most of the big inch V twins I see need an oil cooler. My luck with big bore has been exactly 50/50 they either run great forever or they're leaky, hot, hard starting beasts. Most bikes I've owned I just open up the intake and exhaust to the max,get it tuned right and that's enough but I think the Harley needs a bit more an I'm thinking cams and headwork ought to be just about right.
