They were a little of both. Howard replaced them with longer and higher rate springs (with a one day turnaround!!!) and I am now at a normal amount of preload and travel. Seems every mile I put on them they get better! I'm only at 200 miles or so, so once I hit 500 I'll re-measure sag and travel, but I gotta tell you, they are awesome. As is Howard's service.

Default Damn Ohlins...

So I got my S36E's dialed in nicely, thanks to Howard at Motorcyclemetal.com, and now its really showing how lacking the forks are. Even with the set of Racetech springs and emulators (which are a huge improvement over stock, mind you) they still feel "loose" compared to the rears. It's funny, the racetech stuff went in first, and the forks felt better then the stock rears, then the Ohlins rears went on, and now the forks need more.

I'm now going to look at the 30mm Ohlins cartridges Howard sells. I'll probably send mine down to him for installation over the winter when I send the tins out for paint. I asked Howard for a ball park $# so I can prepare to pad my hidden bike mod budget...

Damn Ohlins, why are they so good?

What is the ball park $# on the cartridges?

Be nice to have some on my SB.

Also, do I spy a compression/ rebound adjustment screw at the top of the shock?

Since you're in the market you should take a look at these as well!

There is absolutely no comparison between the two. I have experience with this company and their products.

Thanks Howard, what kind of differences are they? I have no experience with either, just my traxxion springs and intiminators.

Those have a compression on one side, rebound on the other & spring pre-load on both. They have 20mm pistons. I do not wish to say much more. I did one kit on a XR1200 LA conversion. A 20mm piston is also found on a Traxxion Dynamics cartridge as well as a HD premium cartridge, XR1200LA and V-Rod. The HD cartridges are nowhere the same quality as an Andreani cartridge (better). Just drop me a line & I have a customer(s) on the CVO Forums who has had almost all suspensions including a Ceriani inverted fork for comparison. I will provide a link or just stop on over my place.

Hopfully not derailing this thread too much....

I have an FLD with 41mm forks. Does Ohlins make a cartridge kit for this fork? The Andreanni kit is the only one I've come across for the Switchback.

<<< No Ohlins does not but I do make the 25mm Ohlins non-adjustable fit inside of your forks. I do need the forks, however.
