Default Brian @ Ricor

Bought a set of Ricor shocks in June. Thinking the preload was set based on my specs I went ahead and installed them. While the ride was a major improvement over the stock air shocks I thought the ride could be better. Still thinking the preload was set to my conditions I did not stray to far (maybe 3 to 4 turn each way) from the as shipped set up, but still not what I had hoped for and the wife was not impressed after spending good coin for the shocks. On a recent trip to So AZ I stopped in at Ricor in Henderson,NV and Brian (after a shop tour) put the bike on the lift and made some preload adjustments. Turns out they had a few shocks go out by an employee who did not set the preloads correctly. After more than doubling the preload, what a change. After just going thru the spaghetti section of the LV freeway at 70mph and being bounced around I now went thru there at 80mph and had minimal bounce from the very undulating spaghetti freeway section. I continued on the remainder of the 3K trip and the ride now meets expectations and did not have a single bottom out even on some rough roads. When got home took the wife on a weekend trip to Redding and she was surpirsed by the improved ride and the fact that her feet did not bounce or even have any lift off the floor boards as was common prior (like the old saying when Mama's happy everyone is happy).

Thanks Brian for the time you took in helping get a optimal setting - these shocks do perform and are a major step up from the stock air shocks.

Did you go with the 13" Ricors? Mine are supposed to be shipping this week.

Brian's been incredibly helpful to me.

One thing I've notice about these shocks is that they love preload. Ride with them too loose, and they'll beat the hell out of you. I don't recall where I set my sag, but I believe it's at an inch, and I freaking love how the bike rides and handles.

Thanks for the review. I am trying to decide between the Ricor and Ohlin shocks now.

I bought a set of ricor shocks last summer as well except they were 12". At the time I had a street bob and i couldn't quite seem to find the right preload. Brian offered to increase the length to the 13" so i sent them back. He rebuilt them with the new length and sent them back to me no charge. The end of my riding season was near and didn't have time to get them where I needed them but they were pretty close. By that time I had already decided I would be trading the Street Bob in on a new street glide.

I emailed brian and told him i was trading in the bike and i was just wondering if i sold the shocks how much he would charge another user to rebuild the shocks to a new persons specs. He said if I wanted him to rebuild them for the street glide I could send them back again and have them rebuilt again at no charge. I couldn't pass that up. i did get them back and have them installed on my street glide. I did have the occasion to ride them during a brief melt a couple weeks ago and they seem a lot better than the stock 12" shocks.

Brian has been very helpful getting these shocks to where i want them and taking them back twice to redo them at no charge goes beyond what most vendors would do.
