So I know there have been threads.....but here we go. I bought my bike with forward controls, recently rode a brothers bike with mid controls....I have seen the light. My question is could I have my inner and outer primary drilled (by the stealership or an indi) to put mid controls or do I need to purchase new inner and outer primary? 07 super glyd, thank you for your time
The inner primary should have the mid controls shifter tunnel that is plugged - can be drilled out. Will need a new or used outer primary for the mids - no drilling solution here.
I agree mids are the only correct place for me. 25 years of bad back issues means I have to be able to move around and change positions from time to time on longer trips. My FXDC has the mids but also the forward highway pegs. This gives me almost infinite ways of changing my position and being able to continue on my way. Even sometimes one foot on the mid and one on the forward and alternating. This biggest advantage however is being able to stand up off the seat when hitting RR crossings, potholes, etc and not jarring my spine! 483 miles of horrible roads last weekend and I was still able to walk at the end of the day!
I found the mids scrape easier than forward controls when hard cornering. Thats why I took them off for years. Finally raised my bike front and rear so I could use the mids again. They still scrape first, but I just hang my body off on the low side in a tight corner to get more clearance. They are way more comfortable for my lower back.

Strange because I have experienced more clearance with mids. My heels would drag all the time with fwds, had to point my toes to avoid constant dragging. Now I have no issues at all.

Ok, that's not as bad as I thought it might be. My outer has a dot about were I thint the rod would go, it's why I asked.

Some people freeze up when they realize they're comin' in to a corner too hot and end up riding off the road. Some lay it down and slide off the corner. Shifting weight to the inside does a good job of pulling you around the corner.
You must be an adrenalin junkie too.
