Default Throttle feels loose after new grips

I just installed a set of Kuryakyn iso grips on my low rider this weekend and now the throttle feels really loose and touchy. When I roll on the throttle it definitely feels like the grip rolls a lot looser on the bar than the stock grips they replaced. It's most noticeable on a rolling right turn in second gear. I'll twist with the same force I'm used to and wind up with a bit more gas than desired, which isn't too fun when leaned over into a turn. I adjusted throttle and idle cables per the service manual and the slack feels the same as with the previous grips. I've read about issues with a sticky throttle after installing new grips, but not a looser feeling throttle. Anyone else experience this? Is it just something I'll have to get used to?

Adjust your idle cable till it feels restricted then back it off till it rotates without any drag and has a little free play. Sounds like it is about right from your description but the idle cable is your ticket to adjusting the "looseness"

I already took as much slack out of the cables as possible to see if that would help and it did a little. The best way I can describe it is that the iso grips feel like they have way less friction as they rotate on the bar vs the stock grips. So I think that since I'm still used to the more friction of the stock grips I end up twisting a little too hard in turns.

Have you adjusted the "star wheel"?

If adjusted correctly it will cause a little drag on the grip when you're rolling on it.

Just a thought, I'm also using the ISO grips... I wish I'd have measured the cable channel on the stock grips before I tossed them away when I installed my ISO grips, the ISO grips 'feel' like the diameter of the channel is larger which gives more cable pull for the amount of throttle grip rotation. The new ISO isn't 'loose', it's more sensitive to rider input. IF you've still got the stock throttle side grip remove the ISO and compare them, I suspect the ISO's cable channel is slightly larger.

I like how sensitive the throttle feels with the ISO grips when compared to the stock grips, I've got the cables adjusted to basically zero freeplay at the grip but I do ride very light on the bars.

If you do have your throttle and idle cables properly adjusted try and take some time to adapt to the change in throttle sensitivity and ride as light as you can on the bars. Make some right turns; if you can't use your right thumb to signal for a right turn without upsetting the throttle you're still too tight...

That's it, you nailed it. They are more sensitive to my input. I'm fairly sure it's drilled in muscle memory to rotate the throttle a certain amount in various situations, but now it feels like that same amount of rotation is too much. I already tossed the old grips so I can't do a comparison. I'll take some time to get used to it. Other than that, the ISO grips feel so much better than the old stock grips.

Ever thought about the fact that the ISO has a larger diameter than the stock grips which increases your leverage which makes it easier to turn thus the easier to pull feeling? Just a thought!!!i have Isos on my wg and it took some getting used to but now I love them
