Default Pop Rivet Slip-ons?

Hey guys, looking for some info on slip-ons. I have a 2008 Dyna FXD. I picked it up last year from my local HD dealer. It had the stock tapered mufflers so they through a set of Screaming Eagles slip-ons in with the deal. I recently purchased some after market slip-ons that would give it some more sound. Yesterday when removing the SE's I noticed two things:

1.) there is only the bracket that joins the two mufflers together but nothing that joins the mufflers to bike/frame, just held on by the crush-gasket/clamp to the header. I have 2013 883 Iron and the mufflers attach to the frame.

2.) the dealer put a rivet through the slip-ons and into the header. I assume they did this to prevent the slip-ons from falling off.

Has anyone had an issue where the mufflers come off while riding? Should I also rivet the muffler to the header as a safety?

Thanks in advance for you help.

usually the 2 mufflers are tied together and the middle of the bracket is attached somewhere around the back of the transmission somewhere around the swingarm pivot shaft. I have never seen a ste that did not tie the mufflers to the back of the transmission. Basically your rubber mounted Dyna is bouncing on the front motor mount and pivoting at the swingarm pivot bolt. The head pipes are mounted to the cylinder heads and the pipes are usually mounted to the bottom of the motor and the bottom of the tranny. he mufflers are along for the bounce. Look closely behind the 2 head pipes and I bet you find more mounting of the pipes to the rocking assembly. If so the mufflers are simply tied together with the bracket yoou described and held onto the pipes with the clamps. I would not try to rivet the mufflers, look for proper clamping.

There is another connection point. It is attached to the rear header right before the slipon and crush gasket. So the slipons are only attached via the crush gaskets but the header is attached to the transmission.

Seems the clamps worked for years and should continue same as before.

Sounds like you are missing the muffler support and exhaust bracket...Looks like both pieces with the hardware will cost you around $150 retail.

The pop-rivet repair could be an indicator that it is time to replace the system because someone has been mucking it up...
