Getting close to the first 500 miles and thinking of dumping the oil (just looking for opinions) rather that going the 1000mi.also what is everyone running Syn or Reg oil
No way leave it for the 1000. I have 640 on mine now the oil barely looks dirty. Anything big the filter will catch anything bigger the warranty will catch! Synthetic is what I'm hearing the lube of choice, just which brand. Amsoil I hear is good, I personally know a dealer in FL and really trust him, fellow Coast Guard Chief. Unless the oil looks really bad I would leave till the full 1000. Just my two cents........

Dump it now. Dump the filter as well.
It has trapped any loose metal in the system, so get rid of all the stuff and replace.
I just use HD oil and do not believe the cost of synthetic is worth the cost. I prefer to change the oil and filter every 2000 miles myself..........pg
Short $ whether you do it or have the steeler do it. All engines need a break in period to seat all friction components, that's piston rings, bearings, lifters, valves, etc. Where do you think all the worn off pieces of metal go---yup into the filter (hopefully). Change the oil and filter now. Good insurance.
After the 1st oil change, I also don't wait for the O & F change interval of 5000 mi. I do it at 2500 miles. All it costs is less that $20 if you do it. You engine gets more stress and wear than any other part and BTW it's also the most expensive to replace if it blows due to poor maintenance.
Just my .02C worth. However I have several trucks in my small fleet that have gone over 500,000 mostly due to oil changes around 2500 miles.
You can change it now, but be sure to NOT use synthetic yet.
When you throw things out there like that to new guys, maybe you should elaborate as to why? Not being a dick, just preventing an entire new direction of the thread.
