An idea for other FLD owners looking for a helmet lock.
If you've discovered the FLDs saddlebag are to narrow to allow placing your helmet inside the bags you can still use the saddlebags to secure them. I take a paddle lock and hook it to the d ring on the helmet. I leave the helmets d-ring strap (and paddle lock) hanging inside the saddlebag and close the lid and lock it.
6248 Kurakyn helmet lock works great. You do also need Kurakyn grips for this lock to work. I got the Kenetic grips and they are a big improvement over the stock Harley grips.
I have one of the HD helmet locks, triangle shaped thing with a combination lock. I usually lock the helmet to the sissy bar, if I'm running without it, I'll lock it on the engine guard.
by the way, what luggage racks do you have on top of your bags? and can you post a full photo
They are Mothers. I picked them up off ebay on the chance they would fit the FLD. They were just off a bit. So I took them to a chrome shop and the fellow there was able to bend them to the shape of the bags. Also had to cut the stand offs (where the screws go through the lids) at an angle to match the bags.
I don't have any real clear shots of them on the pc. Here's a couple of teasers. I will get the camera out and take some more detailed ones of the bags tomorrow.
