For those with helmet locks: I want a helmet lock that operates in a specific way. You take the key, unlock the helmet lock, put the D ring of helmet onto lock and then you simply close the latch and it locks, NO KEY required to LOCK the latch in the closed/locked position.
On my last Glide I purchased the HD lock (I like the little HD on there) but when you put your D ring onto the lock, you then had to take the key, hold the latch closed, and then turn the key to latch it. Fine with 1 little half shell but when you are trying to latch a couple of helmets this is a huge PITA.
I have done helmet locks on previous Metric bikes and the Helmet locks always operated by having to use the key only to unlock. Once unlocked you simply snapped the latch closed and it was locked. No key required to lock the damn thing.
How do your helmet locks work and what brand? Did I just get a faulty HD lock?
I use a small brass Master Lock. I put my helmet over my right side mirror and put the padlock thru the D ring and around the mirror stalk. The key is on my MC key ring so I always leave the lock open. I can park and lock my helmet in a few seconds. I keep the lock in the pocket of my lowers, before that I used to just keep it on my beaner hooked to my belt loop.
Yes, that is how the HD works. If I don't feel like fighting with it I'll just lock my wife's Shoei up, and hang my HJC on the highway peg next to it. To the casual observer they both appear locked.
