Default Enlighten me please!

Just what does my HOG membership entitle me to? Have never bought a new bike or felt the need to join.

Roadside assistance is priceless! $20/year for unlimited towing?!? Only a fool would pass on it, IMHO.

As for a local HOG membership, I find the Dallas HOG chapter to be a bunch of old, cliquish, exclusionary snobs. The near-by Panther Creek HOG seems friendlier.

I stand corrected. I think the base membership is $20 and includes about $100 in towing charges, as well as the magazine subscription, etc. An additional $20 gets you unlimited towing. There are other plans with lodging expenses, etc. I opted for just the towing.

When I was overseas it entitled me to 10% of accessories at the dealer. It was also a bunch of cool people that got together and had fun. When I repatriated, I joined again only to find out it didn't not give any dealer discounts. You actually have to be a HOG member, then pay more dues in a local HOG group. I won't be renewing it.

Wife and I each pay $45 [I think thats right] per year for our respective memberships to HOG and Ladies of Harley LOH.

That doubles our roadside.....aside from that the magazines are nice, the Road Book of maps, places to tour etc is pretty cool also.

HOG also gets you a limited amount of theft recovery insurance [under the right circumstances].....advance notices for rallies, some discounts at events [some things free like cruises on the River in Chattanooga during tha national rally], discounts to certain rally area attractions etc etc.

Well worth it and something I personally think every rider should be a part of but...TEHO.

Local HOG chapters commonly offer dealer discounts...some don't......our dealerhas a dollar for dollar match on things you buy with incentives/gift cards/other goodies, for reachng a certain dollar amount during the plan year......thats pretty cool since we have gotten free t-shirts, jeans, etc etc.....and besides, we buy $hitduring the year anyhow so the extra kickback is nice.I don't think the chapter that dealership sponsors offers a discount.

My former chapter gave 20% on anything ordered or in stock plus had special events where only chapter members could come shop at big savingsand eat acatered meal. That was pretty cool [so if you are still doing that Abernathys then good for you!]. We moved though and have not joined a local chapter yet. They all seem to want more of me than I have partioned out right now.

HOG is a good thing.

In the case of my chapter (and I think many other) the local dealership owner and many of the employees are also members. You meet and deal with these and other members on common interests/ground and outside the retail speel. When you share the road and a meal with others, most future dealings run smoother.

We do have one weekend a year where chapter members get a discount on H-D product.

How about joining with other chapters on a ride of several hundred riders (see HOG Tales from the Road 2007)with Dan Aykroid to the Trev Deeley's Motorcycle Museum collection Vancouver B.C. The Museum is a H-D gem (some unique bikes wereloaned to Milwaukee for 2003 celebrations). Dan Aykriod was a blast and more than willing to share interests in bikes, blues and Patrion. A police drill team escort that closed intersection in advance of the riding group was a nice touch for my first ride with my HOG chapter. Then there was ride 2 3 4 etc. and they all had new experiences. The why is in the doing.
