So I've recently moved to the United Kingdom, here in the UK the law is either no running lights or only white from the front of the vehicle. I have the HD mirrors with built in signals and just need to disable the running light portion at least for the MOT testing and only have turn signals.
Well I got it, Just incase anyone ever looks this up.
When Importing a motorcycle to the UK and running the LED mirrors on the aftermarket harness cross the red and blue wire. Red to blue and leave the original blue and second red unhooked. Problem solved
Hi,is your Bike being registered & licensed, with a UK number plate,or are you using it on a temporary import licence?.
If it's the former,i think i'm right in saying the Bike also has to go through an additional import test called a VOSA,i'm not an expert in this, but i am looking to bring my US registered bike to the UK,so i've done quite a bit of research on it.
Like i said i'm not an expert, but i have learned a bit & if i can be of any help, just ask.
Cheers,Graham.
No VOSA required... Never even heard of it to be honest. Just a MOT safety inspection and road tax. Yes Im registering mine with a UK number plate and V5 form. A V5 is just the UK version of a Title. Once you register it you get a V5 incase you sell it here because a title is useless
I'm pretty sure(almost certain) every motorcycle imported into the UK,has to pass a VOSA(sometimes called a SINGLE VEHICLE ) test, this is in addition to the standard UK mot certificate.
The VOSA is carried out by approved government testing stations,as opposed to the MOT which is carried out by normal garages.
If your bike has never been registered in the UK,it does not have UK Type Approval,so the VOSA test is mandatory, please look into this, you may not have heard of it,but it does exist,i'm not very good with links & stuff, but if you can't get any info,i'll try & post a link to the relevant government documentation.
Also, while i'm on the theme of our draconian regulations(about everything),are you aware of our(British)import duty & VAT taxation situation on imported vehicles, our government just loves taxing everyone to death you need to be aware of the rules,so you can try to reduce your bill.
I'm not trying to be a smart **** or rain on your parade, but forewarned is forearmed.
Graham.
I filed Transfer Of Residency scheme (TOR) and was able to import both my bikes tax free by proving Ive paid the taxes on these vehicles already in the states and already MOT'd and registered one without needing a VOSA. Perhaps being military helps?
