I was considering some sort of fairing or windshield for longer trips but after hearing all of the options, problems with fit, buffeting and different fixes needed to make a 700$ fairing fit I think I will just stay in the wind. I had the buffeting issues on my last bike, a street glide and added a taller windshield, and lower fairing wings . Nothing worked until I added the fork deflectors which were ugly but worked spectacular. I even was able to go back to the shorty 4 inch windshield. Gave up the street glide because I wanted to return to more old school. If I have to add all that to my wide glide then i should have held on to the bagger. If that's what you need to ride comfortable that's cool but the buffeting won't stop until you cut the wind coming from underneath. Fork deflectors is the only way I know to stop it. It's a cheap fix. To prove it take it out at highway speed, rest your hand on your knee. Extend it forward just a bit with your hand open and you will feel the wind lifting your hand. That's where the wind and buffeting is coming from.
personally I have the batwing with 9" spoiler on mine and either don't have or don't notice buffeting, I guess i just attribute the buffeting to riding a motorcycle because I don't notice anymore or any less than I have experienced in 35+ riding years...
