Been riding since the early '60's and had to ride it to the ground for the second time today. Stopped by the local dealer while I was out riding today. Leaving there and heading through a parking lot(private property) a couple of a## holes decided to not slow down or yield right-of-way coming out of a burger joint drive though turning left directly in front of me. I had three choices. Hit the truch, a new f150 ford extended cab, veer to the right and through a 2' diameter 6" pot hole then a tree then an electrical transformer box, or ride it to the ground. . I chose the latter. Tore the bike up a bit. Casualties are the right turn signal unit, the mirror, the right side controls, the forward foot peg, the brake leaver, the mid foot peg, the brake leaver/foot mount bracket, the V & H exhaust, the instrument cluster and the seat.
Tore me up pretty good too. Knuckles on my left hand, either jammed or sprained my left thumb (swollen up half again from normal and turning purple), a deep cut on the print side of my longest finger on my left hand, deep cut on the underside of my right forearm, cut on my right little finger, a 2" square chunk of meat gone from the back of my right hand, several other cuts and abrasions on my right hand and arm, and what looks like someone took an 80 grit 7" sanding disc to my right knee and the top of my right shoulder. Ironically didn't rip my jeans or the new shirt I just got today. My helmet took a large hit scraping on the asphalt and I've got a big raspberry road rash right cheek now. Tore me up fairly good. Left thumb and right knee swelling and stiffening up.
The bike I can fix. Maybe $1,000 in parts. I will heal as my 47 years in construction have proven. I should have been more aware of the truck. My bad for expecting him to yield as HE WAS SUPPOSED TO. The guy who taught me how to ride always said..."Ride like you are invisible". I forgot that for a couple of seconds and this is the results.
Not going to ride again without a FF helmet, either.
Bottom line is NEVER EXPECT OTHERS TO DO WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. NEVER!
Going to be stiff and sore for days but looking to get back on my bike ASAP!
Police were called and showed up. No report since it happened on private property, even though the 2 guys in the truck left the scene without giving me their insurance info. I didn't get the plate # off the truck either.
So ride safe!
Idiot,, we're supposed to give a **** about a blow-by-blow detailed story of your damaged body and wrecked bike?
I'm just guessing here but you where probably showing off in the parking lot,, doing excessive speed,, with an inability to see what was coming at you.
Guess what,, in most states when a biker says,, "I had to lay it down" you lose.
Get the tag number from the police (I'm sure they wrote it up or you wrote it down) and go talk to a lawyer and see if you have some way to get compensated from those dorks.
Sorry to hear that. At least you're okay, relatively. No organ damage is always a good thing. Sounds like you did the right move in dumping it. I've intentionally and unintentionally dumped bikes on dirt roads numerous times but never on asphalt, knock on wood. As you said, you're invisible on a bike. Hope you heal quickly and painlessly.
Well you would be wrong. Minding my own business. Good that I don't live in your state. Just a cautionary tale and a heads-up for others. Appreciate your considered reply.
Hope you have a better day.

WTH!? That's way harsh...
Glad that you walked away with only minor injuries!
Yeah.
There's more to the graphic story.
Sorry Dude,, been there,, done that,, I didn't cry on a forum about the multitudes of problems.
Wait till you put some in the ground and pay for the brass plaque,, maybe you'll understand.
I got what I thought was the tag #. The police ran that # but apparently I got it wrong as nothing came up on their system. They left the scene before the police arrived.
Hey JohnMn. Apology accepted. Not "crying on a forum" at all. Been through much worse many times. No idea what that last line is supposed to mean. If you mean saying goodbye to loved ones and friends, you have no idea what I've been through and done.
Just passing on some potentially useful insider info. Above all else YOU ride safe.
