The point of the thread was to point out issues people are having with their bikes and help them avoid costly repairs.
When my security light came on I had no idea it was indicating a blown out bulb.
Had I not addressed the gasket issue...problems down the road with the engine that would be far more expensive.
Really, making fun of what some people consider small, petty issues does nothing to advance betterment and quality issues. Keep on topic or don't make a comment please.
Yeah right , especially when you have an analytical mind !
.....and all the issues that went wrong with it. I'll go first! Some of this is standard maintenance but maybe will help people with timing of stuff that goes.
Purchased new in may 2014 1/2 low rider with 10,200 miles on it now.
Back fender replaced due to paint blip i didn't see when buying new-warranty
replaced seals around intake-warranty at 10,000.
Rear bulb for brake light burnt out after a year and security light came on (that's what it was for, i don't have a security system).
Rear tire michelin scorcher worn after 6000 miles of regular driving.
That's all i can think of for now.
Please add your issues....preferably with new bikes purchased recently.
you are killing me bro , seriously . 2011 bob , no problems at all , stage one , bars , seat , some hand made parts . It is a tire roaster and faster than needed , will way out run my roadking hands down . Don,t worry , analytical is fine but you can't fix things unless they break , of course you can develope preventive ideas and parts if that is what you mean . If you take care of the stock machine it will last a long time and give you very few problems , of course you cannot predict a break down or an issue . If you ride it like you are trying to destroy it then anything can and will happen . Have fun , don't worry -------
Chrome "Super Glide" badge came off battery cover; handled under warranty.
Engine tapping noise is louder than it should be, but dealer says it's normal.
Not a maintenance issue, but it doesn't get the advertised fuel efficiency.
I have 6k miles and my scorchers look almost brand new. And, my riding style is moderately aggressive.
I know where you are coming from, though. Sportsters with chrome covers had a problem with leaks (around 10k mi.) that were fixed using cometic gaskets or gasket sealant. I often wondered if it was the same for the FXDC. But, I haven't read any complaints about that.
I also wonder about the adjusters in the primary, on new bikes.
43,800 miles on my bike. just the normal tires, brake pads, battery and oil. I have done things to keep ahead like wheel bearings and a few other things but that is it.
Leaky front brake master cylinder, replaced under warranty and just yesterday it had a horn brace failure, it broke off and the horn was hanging by the two wires hitting the top of the voltage regulator...should be covered under warranty.
Bike was purchased 8-21-14 and has 6735 miles on it.....
