Dyna Problems
A new Ultra Classic I bought in 2001 had porosity in the engine cases. With only 3k miles, the motor was removed from the bike and rebuilt with new cases, all under warranty. Now that's what I call "serious".
As for my '03 Dyna FXDL, the only real problem I had was a loose nut that secures the compensator.

-brake master leaking, replaced under warranty, twice. Currently leaking again.
-random nuts and bolts need constant tightening, but it's a harley so whatever.
-ignition switch failure leaving me stranded at midnight on the highway, replaced under warranty
-ignition switch housing failure, still rideable long enough to get to dealer, replaced under warranty again
-ignition switch failure (number 3) again leaving me stranded, thankfully closer to home. Temporarily in working ish order
-new issue as of last night, random engine cut out while at highway speeds ( not sure if related to ignition switch)
Last 2 issues are awaiting a dealer visit Wednesday. WhIle I'm there I'll be looking at different bikes, maybe even a new brand elsewhere after all this. Damn shame too my first harley was flawless up until traded at 12k miles
My gas tank keeps going empty!
The warranty has been off for years now and HD refuses to address this issue or offer reimbursement for the continued cost of filling the tank!!
For a bike that's a little over a year old from brand new...w/11,000 miles on it...and comparing that to other people's issues...and considering what these cost...**** like this shouldn't be going after a year.
Just saying...maybe my expectations are too high. Either way, I still love my bike and wouldn't have made a different choice.
7K miles
Front brake master cylinder return spring got weak after about 4K miles - caused front brake lever to not return fully at high speed, which in turn would keep the brake lights lit. Known issue and master cylinder replaced under warranty.
Other than that, no issues at all.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
By that logic he had a paint problem so Harley could tell him to go see PPG/Ditzler because they made the paint.
My brake master cylinder was replaced under warranty it was made by Hayes brake company as were the calipers that have Harley-Davidson written right on them.

2014 Wide Glide
built: June 2014
purchased: July 2014
current mileage: 10410
Check engine light (BUSS ERROR) displays on info screen bike still runs. Dealer finds 14 malfunction codes in system. Everything checks out, clears codes. 1 week later bike fails to start, nothing happens when starter button pressed (BUSS ERROR) message showing again. Body ECU replaced under warranty. Several days later again no-start, towed to dealer same 14 codes and error message. Dealer checks every electrical connector in the wiring harness and finds loose connector. Problem apparently fixed has not returned.
Both brake light lenses melted. Dealer replaced front brake master cylinder and lenses.
Rattle noise in exhaust pipe in front of catalytic converter. Dealer removed exhaust and found a broken off piece of welding slag that was trapped in exhaust system.
All under warranty of course. Dealer has been excellent.
