I have a 2007 FXD. What is the best intake people like for it. I would rather not have to drop $400-$500 for one if I can help it. I already have pipes but want to let it breath better. Looking for suggestions.
Also, i was told that a good add on for performance is to upgrade the ignition module but I am having a hell of a time finding anything for my bike. Would this even be an option being that the bike is EFI? Kinda a newb as my last two bikes were not EFI and this is my first HD.
What kind of performance increases did you notice? I would like to squeeze as much out of the bike before I start looking to upgrade internal engine parts.
Pretty much any aftermarket intake will flow more than enough air. I'm running an Arlen Ness Big Sucker, costs around $100. You can spend 4 or 5 times that and it's more or less just for looks.
With EFI there is no ignition module, it's part of the mapping. Any good tuner you get will be able to tweak timing if needed. The tuner is really the key for getting the most out of the motor, and will be able to be tuned for further mods if you want/need.
You can easily buy prettier, but at your stage of tune you won't get significantly better flow than an SE aircleaner and a simple reflash of your ignition module. Commonly referred to as Stg 1...
I don't mean to high jack your thread, but if you are only planning on doing only intake and exhaust I am selling a set of XiED by Nightrider.com. If you don't know anything about them, they are a plug n play tuner. Plugs into your O2's. I've got them for sale on the Dyna Classifieds. Read up on them and it may be what you are looking for tuner wise. Set I have is brand new in the packaging, never installed.
Im running the arlen ness big sucker and xied's on my 2010 fxd. My bike was cutting out at hgher rpms with just my exhaust installed and runs geat now with now hit in mpg's
