How to tell if clutch needs replacement

A good clutch will have no bluing on the steel plates, and the friction plates should measure close to 0.049, and no loose "fibers".
As I said before though, do a full clutch adjustment: loose the cable to put maximum slack in the clutch cable, remove derby cover, loosen jam nut... tighten the center screw to snug, then back off 1/4 to 1/2 turn and tighten jam nut... readjust for proper lever play with the cable adjustment... checking the clutch ramps on the right side, is more in depth, but should not be a factor in 'hot rodding' the bike.
