Default Advice

I have a 2002 Dyna Wide Glide, yesterday when I was riding I stopped by a store when I came out and went to start it all I did was click. I replaced the battery a month or so ago so I don't think that is the problem. But I was able to run it down a hill and popped the clutch when it was in second gear and it fired up. when I got home and shut it off again same thing clicking and the nothing. Please give me some advice on what you might think what is the problem.

Thanks
Mike

Welcome to the Forum from Colorado!
Check all your electrical connections, particulary the switch under the dash and the kill switch. Check the connections at the starter.

New battery recently and now just clicking.

Well the simple answer is check the battery connections. They are known to loosen and cause exactly the issue you have. Very common.

But: You could have charging issues and that's why a new battery was needed.

Here's how to test your charging system.

Charging System Testing (1)

Charge System Testing (2)

Be sure to post back what you find out and how you fix it.

Check your battery connections at the batt and the other ends of the cables. Charge the batt. Fire it up and put a volt meter on the pos and neg. and see if it is charging-- should be about 14.2- 14.6 at about 2k rpms. 02 bikes had a stator problem from the factory. If you aren't getting that voltage you will probably need a new stator. If you do, I put the Cycle Electrics kit in my 02- the 45amp one. It comes complete with wiring and volt reg. -- a real nice unit. You might check the plug coming from the primary to the volt reg. Too. They get burned and screwed up also. The plug is inside that rubber boot, below and to the left of the volt reg.
