I use a kick on my bike with my four speed. You will require a set of pipes that is designed to fit past the kick lever.

Yup, the TC exhaust routing is almost too tight for mid controls.

Yes I saw that as well. But if you think it was hard to start an old bike the new higher compression bikes will really kick your A$$. Plus you will still need battery power to pump up the injectors.

Why don't you buy a 1975? This topic comes up all of the time. If you want the nostalgia of a kick-start, buy an old bike. The money and fabrication required to make this work don't seem to make it worth it to me. If this is what you really want to do, get out there and do it. Then post pics and the process for all of the others that have contemplated this mod and have not followed through. Personally I think that a kick-start would be pretty cool, but I know (at least for me) that the novelty would wear off pretty quick. Good luck with whatever you decide.
First of all, I posted this for help by somone who has done it to share the experience, not to get bashed by some one trying to look big. THere is a 1975 FXE and a 1959 FLH, both with kickers in my fathers garage. My first bike was a 1971 Kick only chopper and a hard tail frame. I ride my bike and have probably put more miles on it pushing it in and out of campgrounds than most people have riding. I wanted the dyna for the rubber mount for touring. I know the tortures of being outside the bar with all your buddies watching and not catching the compression stroke just right and then kicking half the night or pushing the bike off to get it to start.

Problem is on the internet, everyone wants to be smart because there is no face to face contact and no one wants to offer any help or assistance.

My bike is a 1998 FXD with a carb. Forget about all that modern fuel injection crap when it comes to starting. No fancy 500 dollar exhaust either, $75 drag pipes work fine and are real close to clearing the arm. All I wanted to know is, if anyone had tried it. When I get the 500 bucks to buy the kit, I will post pictures for all to see. All I wnated to know is if anyone had tried it yet.

Mokey....
Sorry to hear you took everyone's genuine interest as threatening or insulting. Let me just reassure you there are many nostalgic, old time, genuine, whatever-the-hell-you-want-to-call-it bikers on this forum as well as the "new bikers"......I fit the old school and the new school interest and own a 74 Harley and a 99 Twin Cam. I never made it a contest on this forum ortook anyone's comments or criticismsas a personal challenge. If it's a bad attitude or a threat you want to offer here, I can say from listening and getting advice here that this is not the place for you. In fact, some of the old Ironhead forums I belong to would probably not have gotten that offended at another fellas comments of interest.
These fellas were only trying to offer sound and genuine advice. Don't kid yourself into believing this forum is full of panty-waste, helpless RUBs. Just because someone can't pull their bike apart and put it back together with their eyes closed like you and me doesn't mean they don't deserve to offer their advice to you.
Maybe we all just misunderstood your question in the first place so, in answer to it.......I don't think anyone here has specifically tried it on your exact type of bike, but yes it can be done and will work just fine for your application with no snags.....I know this from the shop I worked in building customs and customizing factory scoots.

Well....ya'll have gotten my attention. I've been interested in a kicker for my 07' SB. I'll have to scope out bakers site for one that might fit my 6 speeder. I think a kicker would add to the fun, and being that I don't have a problem laughing at myself and I ride a suicide shift, a KS should be interestin....especially on an 07' model. I'd like to keep both electric and kick start though. I've seen it done, so why can't I.

If you can't hacket, get your jacket.....later Fish
