Default Big Sucker Question?

I'm thinking about putting the Arlen Ness Big Sucker open air element on my 05 Dyna Superglide. The bike has the stock carb but jetted by the dealer when they installed the V&H big radius pipes. I just recently took out the baffles love the newrumble but wondering if I would have to put new jets in with the new air cleaner setup. Appreciate any input and likes or dislikes that anyone has with that set up.
Thanks
Ken

I have the Big Sucker on a 05 Dyna also. You didn't say exactly what jet upgrade the dealer installed. When I did mine, I did the intake, a set of Cycle Shack pipes, and a Dynojet kit all at the same time.

I put the big sucker on my 2004 FLHR and my brothers 2005 FXSTB. We both run 1 3/4 drag pipes. Both of us use a 50 low speed jet, a 200 high speed jet and the idle mixture screw is 2 1/2 turns out. We also drilled the vacuum port out with a #30 drill bit. 48 to 55 mpg, quick starts and great throttle rosponse.

Yes you would need to re-jet. With the open element you are taking in more air which would make the bike run lean. Also if you are running with no baffles you basically running drag pipes and will be losing some torque and possible hp and running even more lean. Need a little back pressure on the exhaust.

I have the Big Sucker and it is a good deal.

A friend of mine brought up a good point today about the open air filter. What happens in the rain? What if anything do you have to do to ensure that the water is not sucked in to the engine?

My big sucker, literally sucks in the rain. I've posted on this topic before and it seems I may be the only guy its happened to. 3 Separate, very scary situations involving both the open element and covered.

I've never had a problem sucking rain through my Big Sucker with the football cover. I checked it out of curiosity after riding home in a driving rain shower. I can see where an open element would ingest the rain though.

I've been running an open element for over 5,000 miles on my Bob and more than 20,000 on my RoadGlide prior and never had a problem with water in the bike and I ride in the rain alot more than I'd like to...I think the secret is to oil you element twice a year..Or at least every spring if you don't ride year round...Later
