Default Viking bags

Thinking of picking up a set since they are on sale and wondering if I should go with a medium or large bag? Does anybody regret buying either size. Will be getting them with the quick detach system since we will only use them for traveling. This will be on an 08 LR

Looking forward to some opinions. I've got the large viking warrior bags on order for an 08 FXDL. Do they all have quick disconnect as an option? For the standard install I was reading the manual and it looks like drill 2 holes through each bag which are then reinforced with brace and washers. My bike only had one bolt on the side chrome though so I'm wondering where the other hole through bolt will wind up.

All can have the quick detach except shock cutout models I was told over the phone except the hard bags. I did a ton of searches but didn't see one that suggested a bigger or smaller one. Just reviews.

I have a set of the LAM800L, not bad for the price, used easy brackets so could remove quickly ( yes one can use easy brackets with the shock cut out).
only thing are a bit small for traveling 2 up, locks not the best quality but overall ok.

post a link to the bags your are buying, just saying medium or large isn't specific,

I have the thor bags which are the smallest & only $129, I wrote a review on their site of them,

the bags are nice quality & stuff but the mounting kits are usually lacking, For example I had to drill additional holes in my struts and the hanger caught onto my belt guard which required me to modify my belt guard to resolve.

They have these for 179 and the quick detach brackets for 139 and then 13% off of that price. I figure for under 300 it's hard to go wrong.

I've got to tell you, for the price of those bags, the quality is surprisingly good. I put a set on a Sporty makeover I did a few years back. They worked out real well and looked great.

However there can be issues in dealing with Viking. They have sent out flawed bags, that may need to be exchanged. They frequently screw up orders and don't ship everything, or wrong parts. You sometimes can't get issues resolved by email or phone and have to post your gripe here to get a response. LOL, then they always tell you to email them to keep their dirty laundry from the public's eyes. So they're not known for great customer service, but they're not thieves and will eventually right you if things do go wrong.

I wasn't exempt from such issues. I had to re-rivet a couple places on the straps and the Velcro hold. They also failed to send my turn signal relocation brackets. Then I got chrome instead of the black I originally ordered, then I got the black.

Recently I mentioned Viking Bags to a friend of mine that just bought a new Fat Bob. But I did advise him of my issues as well as others I've read here on this forum. So he decided to call to check stock, then drive to Viking to be able to inspect the painted hard bags and hardware before buying. All checked out well so he bought them. Unfortunately when he was showing them to me, we realized there were no keys. So he had to go back later to pick up the keys.

And speaking of keys, for some idiotic reason, each bag requires a different key. So you'll need to mark them accordingly, so you know which key is for which bag. Why they don't correct that, I can't understand. Just too cheap I guess.

The key issue all so requires 2 different keys for the quick release brackets, so you have to carry 4 keys for 2 bags. I had them on my Softail and the bags were very nice. The locks are another story. The bags would not stay closed, after requesting a new set of locks they finally sent what I was told were new and improved. It took three months numerous e-mails and calls. When they finally came they were the exact same lock. I replaced the Softail with a ltd.

Good luck.
