Default 72T pulley swap

Anyone done it?

Got lotsa questions, but here's some info first:
2001 FXDX, stock TC88A, big sucker, and (sorta) perf. pipe (long story)
Did the 30T pulley conversion, didn't feel it enough in the S.O.T.P. dyno.
Don't have any money for motor upgrades and I'm not a racer.
Just looking to have my arms stretched a bit.

So,
- Is it worth the hassle?
- Will it ruin my highway cruising? (80mph. the 70/30 didn't)
- Would a Buell 72T pulley fit? (bolt spacing and only has front lip)

I'm just toying with this idea.
Maybe my expectations are unreal, and I know there's plenty of other bikes and motors that will give me the torque/speed I'm missing.
I just wondered about a bit of oomph for a bit of cash.

Please and thanks in advance,
and sorry if this was discussed elsewhere.
I found lots of 70/30 info, but no 72t info.

If the Buell 72T works(I have no idea) you will lower your gearing 2/70 x 100 = 2.86 percent. For comparison the 30T mod lowered your gearing 2/32 x 100 = 6.25 percent.

If it were me, I'd be thinking about cams, your gearing is pretty low already so time for engine help.

Good luck!

Definitly leave your hearing alone. I wouldn't go up to a 72 rear, way to much.

Like HD Pilot said time for motor work. Get a nice cam and it will wake that 88" up and get you what you're after.

Okay, thanks for the advice thus far.
I am still interested in hearing from anyone who has done this conversion, but while we're on the subject of cams, a few questions:

- Who makes the best bang-for-your-buck, won't-break-the-bank, plug-n-play cams?
or
- If you're entering that world, is it better to get head work done as well.

Again, I'm not drag racing and budget will be the most important factor.

I have done it before finally just going chain. The V-rod aftermarket 72 tooth pulley for the 240mm works perfect. It is a 1" wide and the aftermarket pulley will fit any standard Harley pattern. The stock cush drive pulley does not work.
32/72 works great! 30/72 will light up the rear wheel but your freeway gas mileage will suck.

A good daily rider cam would be the Andrews 26H. I snagged a set on ebay dirt cheap and it really woke the 88 up.

Just for reference, a 2 tooth rear pulley change is roughly the same as 1 tooth change on the front pulley, so if you didn't feel anything with a 2 tooth change up front, you will not be happy with the change a 2 tooth rear will give you.

Head work is not really a budget type solution. With head work, there is a fair amount of work and gasket cost along with the $$ spent on the heads. To keep the cost down, just put in some nice bolt in cams and enjoy.

Achman recommended the Andrew 26h, another good choice would be the S&S 510s.

Just to clarify, I was planning on keeping my 30T front and swapping the rear pulley as well. 70T for the 72T, so 30/72.
Not 32/72. But thanks all the same.

........., when I did mine it was with a stock 96" motor. It reved up at freeway speeds but not too high. The Buell pulley has 6 mount bolt holes,... it seems. Aftermarket V-rod pulleys will work. The 1 3/8 pulley sizes are available as well if you do not run the narrow belts. On this site if you drift off main stream ideas you get shot down.
Do not let them discourage you, walk your own road!
