Do the simple stuff first, change your fork oil to at least 15 cwt and make sure your steering head bearings are ok and on the firm side of correctly adjusted. lf you're still not happy then you can start looking to spend some money.
l'm guessing you're after handling and steering improvements, fitting a Vibra Technics engine mount is probably the biggest improvement l've made to my 014 Lowrider. That along with decent fork oil and steering head bearings made the standard bike feel like a pig compared to what l have now. Just my 2 cents worth.

Race Tech springs for my weight and their gold cartridge emulators were a big improvement over stock. I still have it in my mind to get the 30mm Ohlins fork cartridges installed, but it means sending my forks out, and about $1700. Though I'm waiting for more info to come out on the new Ohlins NIX-22 cartridges being released as "drop in" for Dyna's though, before I make a decision.

I'm running the Traxxion straight rate springs and Ricor intiminators. Better than stock but leaves something to be desired. Probably the best bang for your buck though.

Look into Andreani cartridges. They run about $450 for the kit and seem to be more performance based than the progressive suspension set-up. The have adjustable preload, damping, and rebound I believe. This will be the direction I go after I upgrade my rear shocks.

Let us know what you decide.

I've just ordered some RT springs w/ the gold emulators. How long have you had them on, still happy w/ them? Anything I need to be aware of when I do the install? Thx.

Racetech springs and Gold Valve Emulators here, along with 15wt oil. While much better than stock, I'm very curious about the Andreanni cartridge kit, as well as Ohlins.

I was running Progressive monotubes but it was not near tight enough for me. My current setup is only Progressive Heavy Duty fork springs and heavier wt fork oil, it has been a tremendous improvement over stock and was very cost effective. May upgrade in the future but this is a great start.

I had the same kit in my older FXD, and think they are great. It's been coming on a year now on my FXDL, and I'm still happy. However from what I understand the Ohlins kits are as big an improvement over these as these were over stock, so they are definitely in my future. I just called Ohlins this morning and while they have no new info on the NIX22 kits, they say they are expecting them in May - so i'll be waiting for reviews eagerly.

Regarding installation, I couldn't tell you. I had it done at my local indy. I only have a garage spot in my condo parking lot - so I can't do much that involves lifts...

I've had them for over a year. You need the shop manual and their instructions and you should be good to go. Racetech's CS was pretty great to deal with as well.

Biggest challenges were...
Drilling the damper rod (listed in their instructions)
Cutting correct spacer (listed in their instructions)
Squeezing everything back together
Putting the correct amount of fork oil (listed in the HD manual)

Go slow. It's really not too bad for the install.

I find the frustrating part being the Emulators in that they do offer adjustment. The problem is, to adjust the Emulators, you need to tear down the fork to get to them.

Ricor intiminators with the 5wt Amsoil Shock Therapy. Stock springs/length.

Quite happy with the results.

I spent money for Ohlins on the back because I felt it was more of a priority. On the front I installed Progressive springs and it was a nice improvement. It'll have to do until some money shows up in my account.
