So the grip by it's self won't spin easily on the bars? Sand the powder off the bars and try again.
It spins, but not as freely as I would think it would. I kind of want new grips now anyways, so probably going to get a pair tomorrow and do some sanding as well.
When I swapped bars on my Road King years ago I had the same issue. I did everything these guys have recommended and nothing worked. I was ready to pitch the bars and go back to stock and that's when the solution (for mine anyway) presented itself.
I had rolled the throttle wide open to show my brother what it was doing and forgot about it. When I loosened the cables it suddenly snapped back to idle. All that time chasing my tail and I had the cables adjusted too tight.
ackman beat me to it....check your cables, they're probably too tight.
The nuts on the throttle and idle cables are backed off completely, and if I pull on the the throttle cable, it opens and closes like it's supposed to. I bought some new grips earlier today (mainly just because I had an excuse to get new ones) and I'm going to give this another go this evening.
its your cables, I had the same issue when installing my 16" apes. Move the return cable around a bit, the throttle should snap back like it is supposed to. You can figure out how to adjust (tighten or loosen) the cable from there.
if the grip is too tight on the handle bar, just wrap some sandpaper around a round dowel (or the handlebar end) and sand out the inside of the grip until it is loose enough to rotate freely...BTDT...
