Hey guys new here normally don't post just read a lot.
So I had started my project of removing my lower triple which was chrome and getting it PC black, everything was going quite smooth until I had tried to put pinch bolts back in. I cleaned the treads out of the right hand side one no problem. but on the left hand side the bolt was almost all the way in and it got stuck.... I was finally able to get the bolt out but it absolutely murdered the threads inside the triple tree. I know stupid *** mistake. but any insight on this would be much appreciated. I am think going to a machine shop but if anyone else has had this issue I am all ears.
Yes just go to hardware store and buy a set of die's. They are cheap. Use a die one size up from the size of the bolt and re thread. Don't forget to buy the cutting paste and the new size bolt to go with it.
A heli-coil kit will run a few bucks but if you could get someone to lend it to you that would be best.
I would go the heli-coil route so you keep the bolts the same size.
The bolt holes come full of old loctite and you have to clean it out with the proper tap.
Always clean the threads anywhere on the bike before putting it back together.
