I was thinking of adding an after market air cleaner like a SE or Air Hog to my 103 Dyna. Do I have to get the FI remapped?
If I need to have the FI remapped do most HD dealers have the equipment to do this this incl. the map programs?
What is the approx. cost to have this done?
From what I've gathered, any changes to air flow, fuel delivery and/or exhaust requires remapping. I'm waiting to do my air cleaner when I install my exhaust. IMHO, you should get the FuelPak or Power Commander. My local dealer wants $200 to do the remapping, and for $300, you can have a device that will do it yourself and be able to do it again and again for more tweaks.
Here's the gig;
Air flow on factory bikes is limited by both the air filter and exhaust, the air/fuel ratio the ECM allows is set for required EPA values.
This is one of the first things folks change and is referred to as a Stage 1 upgrade.
You can change the Air filter or the Exhaust and no change to the ECM's AFR is needed because the air flow is still restricted by the other component.
It's when you change both filter and exhaust to more free flowing systems that something should be done to adjust the AFR.
Get it?
Changing one or the other is not a Stage 1, you need to do both and add a flash or tuner to reach a Stage 1 upgrade.
you should get it flashed for an air cleaner. The dealer will do a SE download for about 200 dollars...or you can get a vance and hines fuel pak 3 for about 300 which has 1000x more options than the SE download
The bike runs lean from the factory. Ideally you should tune it right from the start. I'd bet you get more performance with a tune alone than with air cleaner and no tune.
You guy's aughta do just a little research before spewing ideas.
It's all right here on this forum by some pro's,, just pick the right section and read.
