Am I going to need a fuel managment unit if I want to replace the stock exhaust on my Fat Bob with a whole system. I am thinkin of going with the Vance and Hynes Big Shots or the Kuryakyn Mavericks.
You'll get a variety of responses, but I believe the "official" answer is if you only change one end - intake or exhaust - you don't need a map. Both, and you do. Now, there are plenty of ppl here that will say "I've been riding for 75 years on the stock map with my free flow intake and exhaust". And I'm sure they have, but you will see a big improvement bu getting a good map.

You can add pipes alone for some extra sound, but you'll be happier if you do a full stage 1.
Exhaust
high flow air cleaner
tuner
Instead of a tuner you could get XIEDs for around $100 which richen your mixture, but it's worth the $300 for a Fuel Pack 3, or a little more for a Power Vision. DK Customs or Fuel Moto have some good deals.
I have Big Shots on my Fatbob. Great exhaust. A tune really wakes it up.
You will get all kinds of answers. From my experience with my bike, I installed slip ons and it ran fine. I couldn't stand the popping so i did an air cleaner and tuner.
Will it work and run ok, probably. Will you be happy? Maybe not.
To remap the ECU you have 2 basic choices: either have a dealer do it, or buy a flash tuner. Both will cost a few bucks and probably not really necessary.
The XIEDs are a good option and you'll get the sound you want from the new pipes.
what are vied's? I am looking for slip on's for my 2014 fat bob
adjustable fuel management. They basically rick your o2 sensors into telling your ECU that the bike is running too lean, that inturn richens up the mixture. cheaper alternative to a full blown tuner.
