So I currently ride a 09 dyna fxd. I love the bike to death, but I just wish it had a tachometer. Im not looking for a 2 in 1 gauge or one to go on my tank. I want two separate full size gauges like some of the old super glides have or like the fxrs. Is there a tach out there I could run that would semi match the stock speedo. Or will I have to go with a complete set like something autometer makes? Also what hardware will I need to go with it. I found a double set for a sportster, I'm just wondering it is compatible with my bike.http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...FcRehgodcRcL1g
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
-Thanks
I have a 2010 FXD and I'm adding a tach. If you want a stock bracket then get one from a sportster. You already have the cable that goes to the speedo so you will need one for the tach. I am splicing the tach wires into the speedo wires. I have heard mixed reports of whether this will work or if I will have to run a wire from the ECM up to the tach.
Could I just replace mine with that whole unit from the sportster?
What I saw in the link you provided was a tach and a bracket that held a speedo and tach. You would put your Speedo and indicator lights in the bracket with the new tach. I don't think it comes with the tach wires though.
You might be able to use the factory cable for a low rider since it has a speedo and tach.
I don't know if that would work though.
