Dyna Models are 2nd Class Citizens
But a Sloptail is a heavier frame, so the bike is a heavier bike. So performance-wise, with everything else equal, the Dyna oughtta be up on the Sloptail. But then if you want to go all out on a performance street HD, get a Sporty and stuff a big bore stroker motor in it.
Now that I have my Sloptail, I'm glad I didn't stumble on a Dyna. I don't care for the rubber mounted engine-tranny-swingarm combo. For some reason, it just doesn't feel right to me. But that's just personal preference, probably related to being an ol' curmudgeon.

I have a spare Evo motor now, and it will make its way into a swingarm frame one of these days. But it'll be a '70s era type frame with a couple inches of stretch, a few degrees of rake, and a 4" over front end. It'll also be coupled to a 4 speed tranny, unless I get lucky and find an old 3 speed w/reverse one. Told ya I was a geezer.
Overall I think the Dyna line is a good lookin' set of bikes. There's something there for everybody, pretty much. You can go the bobbed look, or hang a buncha stuff on it and get a pretty good tourer. Hard to top the variety!
As far as the blozos who snub ya, or make the typical remarks? They ain't bikers, they're just riders.
I walked around the showroom, looked at all the bikes. I did this for a few weeks. I kept coming back to the Wide Glide.
Second class nuthin'... This thing is bad to the effin' bone.
But this is my first Harley... hell it's my first bike... so what do I know
When I walked into the showroom for the first time and looked over at a black Wide Glide sittin' there with it's raked out front-end... mini-apes... silver ghost flames... and bobbed rear fender... I pictured myself stretched out on top of that S.O.B. and smiled from ear to ear.

That said, they're all just jealous man....we've got the same big azz 96 motor on a lighter chasis. Softails might be the Cadillac, but we've got the Corvette. I don't think you can go wrong on a nicely equiped Dyna. I've got about 1800 miles on mine already and I'll ride all day with the big cruisers with no aches or pains. What I love is in a group of 8-10 bikes, even if half are Dynas you can still pick out the differences and what you like and don't like. I ride in a group and think "I've got the best bike of the bunch" but I'll damn sure bet that almost everyone else in the group is thinking the same thing.
I did sort of sell us all out last weekend though. Ahot chick asked me "Is that a Dyna Softail?" and I just said "Yeah. Get on."
