I have a 07 Softail Custom and my wife rides a new Street Bob. I know, because I've ridden both that her dyna is a better handling bike and a little snappier on the throttle. Damn good bike in my opinion.
I may be a 2nd class citizen but I don't think my bike is. Only reason I didn't get a fat boy, which is a couple hundred dollars more than the WG, is because I didn't want one. Simple as that.
I put up with that crap a long time with my Sporty. After a while I used it to my advantage to filter out the guys I wanted to hang out/ride with from all the rest. Saved me a lot of wasted time and trouble, I've got no time for bike snobs.
Anyone who knocks someone else's ride, or goes around feeling superior needs an attitude adjustment. I have respect for all riders... rice, American Iron, mopeds, bicycles, whatever.
Yeah, I like riding with whoever wants to ride. Most of my riding buddies are indiscriminate like me... you filter them out, as has been said. A couple of my friends ride crotch rockets, and they're fun to ride with. You can see them get antsy after a while and ziiip! they disappear.
When it comes to owning and riding bikes somemen are like old women. If they have a metric they have to put down your harley to make them feel good about their purchase. If they have a harley then they have to put down your harley to make them feel good about their purchase. Give me a break its enough to make you sick. I could have bought any "stock" harley I wanted. I bought my SB because it fits my riding style. Do I like other harleys? You bet especially the heritage classic and fat boy. I really like those bikes. Do I notcare for other harleys? You bet especially the touring bikes, and vrods. I bet if I was riding long distnce I would like a touring bike and would like a vrod if I was young and riding a little harder than I do. The whole deal of bike bashing is old and tiring.
My whole idea was riding a Harley was riding a Harley, even with the vrods. A Harleys a Harley. Out of all my friends, I am the only one who rides a Dyna. And when I ride, we just ride, its not about wow your bike is way cooler than my bike. A couple of my friends have the softail deluxes and believe me, if I had money from the begininng to have gotten that bike I wouldve. But I went with a 15g street bob, and used my friends visa and mastercard to make it the way I like it. When we ride and stop, everybody passes all of the softail deluxes and chromed out baggers and make it to my bike. I really never expected the attention, cuz like I said I did my bike up the way I wanted it. And Im on the verge of buying a bagger, and thats because I like the idea of a fairing and music. You got a bagger, cool. You got a softail, cool, you got a dyna, cool.
Because I just know that Seger didn't write this about a bagger:
--------------------------
Took a look down a westbound road right away I made my choice
Headed out to my big two wheeler I was tired of my own voice
Took a bead on the northern plains and just rolled that power on
Twelve hours out of Machinaw City stopped in a bar to have a brew
Met a girl and we had a few drinks and I told her what I'd decided to do
She looked out the window a long long moment then she looked into my eyes
She didn't have to say a thing I knew what she was thinkin'
Roll roll me away won't you roll me away tonight
I too am lost I feel double crossed and I'm sick of what's wrong and what's
right
We never even said a word we just walked out and got on that bike
And we rolled
And we rolled clean out of sight
We rolled across the high plains
Deep into the mountains
Felt so good to me
Finally feelin' free
Somewhere along a high road
The air began to turn cold
She said she missed her home
I headed on alone
Stood alone on a mountain top starin' out at the Great Divide
I could go east I could go west it was all up to me to decide
Just then I saw a young hawk flyin' and my soul began to rise
And pretty soon
My heart was singin'
Roll roll away I'm gonna roll me away tonight
Gotta keep rollin' gotta keep ridin' keep searchin' till I find what's right
And as the sunset faded I spoke to the faintest first starlight
And I said next time
Next time
We'll get it right
