I decided to move the speedo off the bars. So I ordered a new bracket and mount. When I started pulling everything apart I noticed the the gray wires that should connect the button for trip/clock/odometer/reset were cut. And the button is broken. I feel like the previous owner was tampering with the odometer but I hope it was just because the piece was broken and acting up. I haven't had a chance to reconnect the wires yet to see if anything changes.
Hmm, if the reset button is/was broken it could have been doing weird stuff to the display like constantly changing or flipping between modes,, that would be distracting,, leading the guy to cut the wire.
I'm not sure he was tampering with it with malicious intent as much as just trying to stop the display from rolling.
I'm sure there's a chip in there that's still recording the data, it's just not being displayed.
if it was me i would go purchase a new button and reconnect the wires
and see what happens i use the trip settings when i fill up instead of the trusty fuel gauge just my 2 cents
honestly, if the bike is running fine then why waste a fˆ%k on it. If the odo is counting miles then all it honest. If not then you'd be forgiven for wondering if the mileage was accurate, but then again, if it's running fine then dont waste a f$%k on it.
if it was me i would go purchase a new button and reconnect the wires
and see what happens i use the trip settings when i fill up instead of the trusty fuel gauge just my 2 cents
That would be great.
