Default 1995 FXDWG - Tall Rider - Seat Opinion

Hi there, I'm new to the forum and have just purchased my first Harley. 6'-5" 220lbs. I adding 3" extensions to the forard controls just as soon as I can.

I have read many posts and have decided that the 'Le Pera Bare Bones' would be a great solo seat for barhopping, as they say.

As far as long rides, I am wondering if there are any tall riders out there using the 'Mustang Touring Solo w/ Driver Backrest.'

Have you found this seat to move you back at all when compared with the stock seat, or does it simply offer more support with the added bonus of the backrest? I do have some lower back problems so I'm thinking the extra back support would be crucial. I also like the fact that I can increase the passenger seat size as well to keep the wife comfy too.

I've attached a picture of the bike so you can see the present seat configuration.

Thanks for all your advice.

I had a seat very similar to your pic and went to the LePera Silhouette (nearly identical to the Barebones). I'm only 6'0" but the LePera was a HUGE improvement in legroom for me. It's a bit stiff and the lack of a "backrest" can be alarming at the first twist of the throttle, but I felt that it settled in nice and was plenty comfortable for an hour long ride (for me).

I am 6'7" and have had the Mustang wide touring one piece (Driver/Passenger) on both a 2003 and 2008 WG

I feel the mustang moves me back a bit but also moved me lower which in turn made it more comfortable with long legs. Like you I also run the Kurykyn 3" extensions on my wideglide and have found the combination of that and the Mustang seat make me very comfortable.

I have done a longest single ride of just shy of 800 miles with many, many 300-500 mile days and the Mustang seat has never let me down.

I will say the seat is important but for a tall man on a WG the 3" extensions are the ticket

Here is a pic with my set up

If that seat is in good condition that is a great price. Like I said I have had a Mustang on two WGs and 03 and an 08. Both my wife and I love that seat

Yes, it is almost new looking. Original price was $450, but I lowballed at $250 and seller accepted it. So I have the driver seat, driver backrest, and passenger seat. My bike currently has the really short passenger backrest so now I have to figure out if I can get a Mustang passenger sissy bar and backrest somehow....any ideas?

I don't think Mustang makes sissy bars although the do make sissy bar pads. As you can see from my pic above I just have a standard HD par and pad. I would think any bar that works on your bike will be fine with the Mustang seat
