You're not missing a thing cg ... but HD is playing hard to a new demographic... jack'in their prices as they go... forgetting about the demographic that put them where they are... and it will cost them if they don't wake up.
anyway... I go where my front wheel points and I listen to the awesome drummer sitting under the tank...
I will eventually get a used touring bike... so that my passenger is more comfortable... but I'll always have my Dyna for when I want to *ride*
Yes,you're judging..to each his own and that's probably the reason why they give you a choice at the dealers.I've had a softail and a Dyna in the past..They're awesome bikes in their own right but to say you don't get the point of riding a bagger isn't fair not especially to one of the most popular bunch..Maybe if you rode one for a while you might see the point especially at the end of a 600 miles ride?
I've owned three baggers, 2 ElectraGlides and a StreetGlide. I hated them. Traded my StreetGlide for a new Low Rider, and I'm gonna be 65 years old in a few weeks. I agree with ccgorman, if you need all that stuff, get yourself a convertible. Been riding since the mid 1960's, back when you were considered a sissie for even running a windshield. With forward controls, and, yes, a windshield, I'm actually MORE comfortable on my Low Rider than I was on my baggers. More leg room, and lots less BULK. No more two wheeled mini-vans for me. Also, I believe that baggers are just the "in" bike right now. 10 years ago it was custom choppers i.e: Jesse James, Orange County Choppers, etc. Now you can't give those things away.Currently it's custom baggers (which don't make a lick of sense to me), and 20 years from now it'll be something else. Me? I prefer riding a "motorcycle".

I must be missing something. I just don't get the point of riding a motorcycle that keeps you out of the wind, corners like a truck, has GPS, sat radio, intercom, air ride, etc. Why not just drive a car? Trikes are even more mystifying to me.
I mean, whatever, I'm not judging. I really just don't understand. I've got a convertible 2 door for when I need to haul a passenger and luggage and still enjoy some sun/wind in my hair.
IMO HD make some of the worst helmets..in just a short while your liners and trimmings start giving way..One is better off with the many popular helmet makers like Shoei,Arai,AGV and the likes.

It's not fair to say I don't understand someone else's perspective? Seems about the MOST fair thing in the world. Most people just say anybody that has differing opinions is just plain wrong. I'm not saying it's wrong. I'm just saying I don't get it. You like it? Have at it, brother. I'm sure just as many (probably more) touring bike bike riders look at guys on stripped down rigid choppers and just laugh at how uncomfortable they are.
In the 90's everyone wanted a Softail, now everyone wants a Bagger. The Dyna's are over looked and under appreciated for what they are, I still love mine 19 years after I bought it new.

Fair enough bro...having said that,I still look at those 'bare' bikes and think they're cool as heck
The dealer here has trouble keeping Dyna's in stock.
That's what I was going to suggest, too. There are times I go to the local dealer and there are not any Dynas. I think they'd all been sold.
cggorman, you may find Revzilla to be helpful for helmet choice. Good videos where they talk about fitment. You can order and return a helmet if it doesn't fit for about $7 out of pocket. Worth it if you don't have anywhere nearby to try a large range of brands.
