Default Dyna Shock Lengths

Does anyone know the length of the shocks on a 06 Dyna Low Rider? My 06 Wide Glide has 12.5" shocks. I slammed the bike by having them cut to 11.5" which lowered the seat 1.5" plus. I like the lowered look but it might be too much of a handling compromise. I thought I might replace the shocks with FXDLI shocks if they are in the 12" range. I like the look of the Wide Glide and Low Rider shocks.

i purchased some 1" lowering shocks for my Dyna Street, and on the box it says that it will only lower the FXDL .25" So i would imagine they are stock Low Rider shocks are only 3/4's of an inch lower than your Wide Glide's stockers.

Alex

BTW How is the ride after cutting the springs? Ths shocks I bought I wasnt real pleased with. I dont think I got an inch off the stock height and I feel like a buerned 235 bones.

Alex,

Thanks for the info. I think the Low Rider shocks might be the perfect compromise between looks and handling if they are indeed 11.75". I will try to get some info from the dealer next time I stop by.

What brand shock did you buy? MB Products did the work on my shocks. They cut the dampener shaft and replaced the springs from what I understand. They did not cut the springs. The cost was only $69 which included return shipping. The ride is fine though I have not had a chance to ride it hard on twistys yet, just around town. Of course, the travel has been reduced and I have bottomed the shocks a few time on street bumps. As I said the look is awesome and will post a picture at some point. I think I will ride it for awhile before I make any further changes to the suspension.

I had the stock shocks on my '04 FXD cut down an inch to 11.5" also. There was no real handling issue and the back of the bike was lowered about 1.5" also. The cutting was done by M&B, they can be reached at www.skullenterprises.com. For $69.00 and about $25.00 shipping to CO, it was a load cheaper than the HD shorter shocks. Quality is good, turn around time was good also. All in all, very happy with the results, the look of the bike and the price.

Could you post a pic when you get a chance? do you ride 2up often? I love the look of a low ride but my old lady likes to ride and I dont want to be bottoming out everywhere I go.

thanks

Keep in mind my bike is a 2005....

Eye to Eye length stock Superglide shock 12.6 inches

Eye to eye length Lowrider shocks 11.6 inches

I'm using 11 inch Progressive 412 Heavy Duty's. solo riding I have 7/8 inch fender to tire clearance when sitting on the bike, and I'm 220 lbs.

These figures are again for 2005's.

The Progressives are normally $250+, but you can get them through Jirehcycles.com for around $190 with free shipping!!

Alex,

Here is a photo of my Dyna with the lowered rear. I don't do much 2-up riding, but when I do, I just crank up the preload a few notches. It works as long as the total load on the bike isn't too severe. I'm about 165 and passenger, maybe 140. My guess would be that with the lowered rear, either by cutting the stock shocks or installing the HD shocks, with a heavy rider and passenger, you might have a tendency to bottom out the rear. Anyway, for 1-up riding, it's great and having them cut rather than buying the HD shocks saved a big wad of cash. I figured that if the ride and or looked sucked after spending $69.00, there really wasn't much down the tubes. I would have been pi$$ed if I spent over $225.00 for the HD lowered shocks (part 54594-03).
