Everyone eventually throws a leg over when they are distracted, or tired, or whatever. I doubt that this feature was installed due to some huge issue with people who ride imports just off and forgetting to put their stands up.
If it wasn't a huge issue, then I have to think it is a bad design on some level
I don't believe in nanny statism. Have I hurt myself using dangerous equipment? You bet I have. Usually because I've done something foolish. Or lost focus.
Done the same. Hell, I'm active Navy and an electrician. There are times I've gotten the job done to make sure the mission gets done. Doesn't mean I did it safe. Still was surprised the bike didn't have that feature.
Point of asking was just to make sure something wasn't broken. Only had the bike for 6 days and already have put on 1400 miles. So still learning it.
I have never heard of that feature. I've owned and ridden a few bikes other than HD in my time but never came across that feature by accident or otherwise.

Thank you for your service.
Nothing's broke on it. Welcome to the wonderful world of Harley-Davidson. You will find a lot of anachronisms and idiocyncrasies on these bikes.
Personal preference. I disabled the clutch interlock on my car, too. No.particularly good reason other than I like to exert control over my machines and put my thumb in the eye of The Man.
I disable speed limiters and rev limiters and many other types of safety features. My favorite is the trigger disconnector on my framing nailer.
