This thread reminded me of when I first got my Dyna. My previous bike was a 1994 Suzuki Intruder 1400 which had a really tall kick stand and you usually parked it in gear as a little extra insurance that it wouldn't roll forward or backward the minute ammount required to knock it off the stand and on to its side...anyway I rode my dyna to work to show the guys, and I parked it up front, right next to my boss' brand new that week BMW 5 series car. Well, as I was used to doing, I parked the dyna in gear. When I was showing the bike to my buddy, i stated it up so that he could hear it...in gear, standing next to the bike. It popped forward with great force, but the well designed side stand caught it and put it to rest before it could slam into the BMW.

I got my first bike in Texas. Had the interlock. Second bike in Virginia. Had the interlock. Third bike in Virginia. Had the interlock.
Being "in California" has nothing to do with it nor did I ask the question because I'm STATIONED here. I don't exactly have a choice at this point.
Again, I asked the question to make sure something wasn't broken on my new bike. It was answered. I then asked the people that said they wouldnt want it why. I didn't belittle them or call them stupid for their questions or opinions.
Some of the rudest people on this forum. Not here to help, just insult.
I do apologize for coming off like an *** yesterday. I always attempt to be helpful and respectful and I clearly failed in that regard in this thread. I spent yesterday afternoon watching the legal department gut some well thought out project plans due to their safety/liability concerns and this thread hit me the wrong way.
I took my annoyance and frustration out on you and I am sorry for that. I hope we can move forward from this and get back to some good solid discussions...

I stepped on my dick yesterday and that will NOT happen again. This forum is my second home, I have friends here. We exchange information and ideas and help each other; stupid rants don't belong here...
Since you're hating the attitudes, here's the answer: nothing happens if you leave the kickstand down. It will fold up or just scrape. Start your bike up and leave it down on purpose. I promise you will not crash your bike due to thr kickstand being down.
Yep, the Harley kick stand won't lock out until it is raised a couple inches at the tip. That can't happen when you are moving forward. The road friction will move it rearward where it can't lock. You will have an annoying dragging sound but you won't be flipping over.
If you were to ride backwards, then yes it could lock out flipping you over.
