I don't disagree that safety features are nice and worth having, but a kill switch on a down kickstand whilst the bike is in gear doesn't strike me as a big deal. Almost all HDs you sit down on will have to be tilted to the right some just to get the stand up. In fact, my Dyna, which is stock height, has to be tilted right to get the stand up whether or not I'm sitting on it. Otherwise, you CAN'T sit down on the bike until the stand is up without it being more than noticeable.

It's just not the same as all the foreign bikes. It makes much more sense to have that feature for no better reason than a normal rider's full weight on the bike, while holding it straight up, still doesn't make the stand touch the ground.

It really isn't a big deal but some of the responses here have been unreal. I guess a safety feature makes some people feel like less of a man or something.

On my Harley I never to forget to put my kickstand up. Not sure why that is. Maybe failure isn't an option.

I'll warn the OP about another mistake you'll only make once on a Harley. Don't hit the starter when you are in gear, and the clutch is engaged. It's a moving experience.
Newer HDs have a clutch interlock Ron. Unlike your 03 and my 02. They won't engage the starter in gear with the clutch lever out.

No, a safety feature with a useful function is worth having.

This is much like Lobster Helper: an excellent solution to a nonexistent problem.

Yeah, some folks here are just ********. They spent too much time on their computers reading forums and not enough time riding. So, for what it's worth, sorry. Just ignore them and move on. You can't fix a guy's insecurities via a motorcycle forum anyways.

If that safety feature was on my motorbike currently, I'd probably have never noticed, but I wouldn't be upset that it was there. Worst thing that can happen is it saves me money on fixing something I'd break.

Please forgive my friends here. Your post of "why doesn't my new Harley that I spent a lot of money on have what my Japanese bike had?" is a fairly routine occurance. Most of us buy and ride Harleys BECAUSE they don't have all the things Asian or Euro bikes have. HD riders tend to like things a little more elemental.

So when the 5000th person posts a thread on how come my bike doesn't have this or that, some of the things that go thru the minds of regulars are (but not limited to):

Oh no, not THIS **** again!

He paid all that money for something and knows nothing about it?

His bike will be on Craigslist before the HD t shirts start to fade.

The last thing a Harley needs is another electric switch to keep it from starting/running when they shake just about everything loose anyway.

And finally

"Safety devices" only protect stupid people. If there weren't as many "safety devices" there would less stupid people.

Having served in a branch of the Navy (the Men's branch I'll give a swaby a tip to make your time around here pleasant. Never let anyone know what and where your button is; they'll remove it and install a crank.

Ride that bike sailor and learn to love it for what it is.
