Wrinkle paint is a finicky bitch. Use of gentle heat and very careful application is the key. Inadequate film thickness will result in little or no wrinkling. Spotty thickness from heavy application where the paint gathers at edges or runs results in inconsistent wrinkling. Heat will affect the tightness of the wrinkles. Low heat from a hair dryer works pretty good. A heat gun can turn it into a very fine wrinkle quickly.
The Harley wrinkle has a satiny gloss to it
The VHT wrinkle is more flat.
The Harley texture black is really nice. I prefer the VHT wrinkle, tho. It seems easier to get right.
Yeah, yunno next time I think I'm simply going to sell my part, and use the $ to just get a new part from Harley that is already wrinkle black. I coulda sworn I used enough, but having never done it before I'm not super surprised it didn't come out exactly right. I guess it's not BAD, but absolutely not what I wanted.
HOWEVER! It's funny you mention VHT, because EVERYONE that I read of online that has used it is incredibly happy with the results. I think I may go that route next time too. Plus I also understand that their paint is ULTRA-durable once cured.
So duly noted!
If I do any more parts on my bike I will use the VHT, and then resurrect this thread with results. But I don't think I will unless it's another bike. Painting is a PITA to set up, clean, etc.
