I know there is 100 threads on the forum about these bags, but I have a question that none of them answered. I noticed that people where referencing a "hard" and "soft" bag but when I look on the website there is no hard or soft option. I would assume that they meant that the "cowhide" was soft and the "steer" was hard. Can anyone confirm this. I like the bags and just don't want to end up with a sloppy piece of leather hanging off the bike. I don't care if the bag is malleable, but I don't want it to loose its shape so If I have to pay extra for the steer I will.... penny for your thoughts?
A hard bag is made of fiberglass, plastic, or in some cases metal. A soft bag is usually a leather bag. The bags on Switchbacks, Road Kings and any of the other Harley baggers are hard bags. The bags on a Heritage Softail are soft bags.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I should have specified a little better. I know that what you said is the general terms for them, but when I was reading about those bags people where talking about a soft leather and a hard leather. Bad and G doesnt make hard composite bags. They only make leather ones to my knowledge. So basically I'm trying to figure out if their regular cowhide is good or if I should spend the 80 extra bucks for the steer leather.
I got a left and right solo bag for my dyna super glide. I ordered the regular leather. This will be my second season with the bags and they look as good today as when I bought them. I give then a good dose of weather proofing at the end of the season.
The regular leather is very heavy duty. I couldn't imagine what the heavy duty leather is like. I did order the extra width and I'm happy with that choice.
These are great bags and I expect them to last a good long time.
I have the cowhide. Plenty tough enough. They where at the smokeout rally this past weekend and had some good deals. Got the Dyna battery cover bag for $45! Have there throw over saddle bags for a while now. Love them. Just a heads up. They are not shipping until July. Doing rallies the month of June.

Thanks for the replies. This is the exact info I was looking for. I saw on their website that they will be out till July so I guess I'll just wait....now to decide if I want colored thread to match the bike.
