Default 2007 FXDB wont shift

This started as being harder to find N.Then it started acting like the lever was slipping on the shaft( long throw between first-N.Then into 2nd and the rest. Now it wont shift into any gear. The shift rod hits the primary cover.
Any Ideas before I go to a shop?

Bolt is tight and shaft is moving.I think it is in the Pawl assembly.

Default This is my old post

After disassembly we found the problem. A faulty weld on the shifter pawl assembly. After fixing it with a new assembly I went to the dealer like HD support told me to do. Dealer told me it was my fault for not taking the mid shifter shaft out when forward controls were put on (by another dealership). All I wanted was reimbursed for the $45 part and the oil. They lots a good customer for a lot of yrs. Still dont go to dealerships except under dire circaumstances.
I left HD for street bikes for a long time after this.

Thanks for the update, albeit 7.5 years later....

Yours is the second case I have heard of with that same issue.... Gladly it is not a frequent occurrence, but good to be aware of none-the-less...

Interesting claim by the dealership for the cause. I always thought leaving the mid shift shaft in place after going to forward controls was a shortcut/lazy oversight, but I can't see how it would put pressure/strain on the shift pawl... it's disconnected..?

That makes absolutely no sense! And, how would you be responsible for checking the dealer's work?

Anyhow, welcome back!

They also told me and my wife to leave and not come back after we both gave them a head full. Never went back until a buddy of mine became service manager. Now that he is gone I dont know if I will go back or not.
