I thought the same thing when I did the Big Brake, that the pads were a bit more toward the outer edge but I think that's the nature of this upgrade
Once I'd bedded in the new Lyndall pad's and the rotor and I started practicing threshold/maximum braking the upgrade was incredible. I've noticed that I've gone from a 2 finger braking to only using my middle finger when I practice; the added braking power is quite nice
I'd recommend you both phone Arlen Ness; their customer service is very good. When I purchased my Big Brake kit they sent the older style 02-972 caliper bracket but they did include the 2 M10 x 35mm socket head bolts for the caliper bracket.
Arlen Ness had the proper 02-972-1 caliper bracket for the 49mm forks to me in under a week; they included another set of socket head mounting bolts and I noticed that set had 3 M10 x 30mm caliper bolts instead of 1 M10 x 30mm and 2 M10 x 35mm. I figured it was just a mistake on their part and used the longer M10 x 35mm bolts from the original caliper bracket kit to mount the caliper bracket.
I contacted them at 1-925-479-6379.
I hope you two can get this sorted out...
Thanks!
I'll give them a call just so they know. In the meantime our local Fastenal had the bolts in the right size but not in stainless only in black. I bought them for now. I think we I received my kit I double checked the bracket and I received the proper one but I'll check when I get home. Just got a call from the Indy and my wheels are ready so I'll swing by and pick them up after work. Maybe get things reinstalled tonight but I kind of doubt it.
Since i didn't run the bike yet with the new setup, I can't tell precisly but It seems a bit more toward the outer edge... strange. Ordered kit #02-972 and got 02-972-1 bracket so everything should be good for my '14 Bob ? Or maybe I'm just loosing my mind lol !
Your fine with 02-972-1... You're not the pioneer here?
Sourced the right screws in 12.9 with the zinc plated finish few days ago and tested the kit for a few days trip : braking power is awesome !! Feeling is just perfect, not brutal or too soft, and you have a good feedback on the lever.
The brake pad track on the rotor is a bit more toward the outer, but there is indeed 2-3mm left before the end of the disc so that's normal.
Got this morning the "good" screws from ANess. They are the right size, but only 8.8 class... Did yours brackets also come as mine with 12.9 for all four screws ?
That is out a bit further than my Big Brake rotor; I've got about a 3mm ring around the outside of the rotor where the pads don't touch.
What brake pads are you using? I installed new Lyndall Gold+ pads when I installed the Big Brake rotor. I wonder if it's a difference in the brake pads...
