I was about to say the Bob is quieter because your Sporty probably didn't have cats, but as I see it was a '15, it did. You can solve that very quick and easy with some slip on's. and while you're at it, get tuner (many of us like the Dynojet Power Vision from Fuelmoto - a very helpful vendor) and an air cleaner and you're stage 1 is done! Or go for a nice 2:1 for the real low end power...
In any case, congrats on your new Dyna, and welcome to the club!
"A weird thing that I can't figure out is the difference in buffeting issues. I put a windshield on my Iron because the buffeting was unbearable at regular highway speeds. I took the windshield off to drop my Iron off at the dealer and got a reminder how bad the buffeting was. Here's the weird part... I noticed it on my test ride a month ago and yesterday too, the Bob has nowhere near the amount of buffeting as the Iron. I'm talking about faster speeds too. Don't get me wrong, I can't hear the Bob above 25 mph, but my body doesn't seem to get blasted like it did on the Iron. Still see a windshield in my future."
Life, I had the same issue. Although I'm new to riding and just figured that's how it's supposed to be. but I got the HD 1/4 fairing and I love it. Helped with the buffeting immensely. Not sure the look you're going for, but a lot of peolpe on here I've noticed are going with the T-sprot fairing. Anyway...welcome.
On the buffeting issue. When I was running a windshield, I must have tried a half dozen before I found one I could tolerate. I ended up with a clearview recurve shield which fit in the HD metal. However I wound up on my last low rider, with the same Memphis shades Cafe fairing I put on my LR-S. It's pretty much perfect for me - keeps the wind blast off my chest and gives me clear (no buffet) air on my head.
If that style fairing is something you can live with, its a great alternative to a shield.
Now dont get me wrong, when I'm behind the clearview, its like having a brick wall in front of me. Very calm air. I'll probably put swap it on for the winter, as 30's deg air at 70mph gets old fast and a full shield really extends the ride time...
A lady friend of ours has a new-ish Fat Boy Low. Hers is denim black and just a beautiful bike. Anyway, she has a clip on shield on it that has a lite grey tint and black hardware. It took me a few times around her bike to even notice she had a windshield.
Eventually, that's probably the route I'll take. On my Iron, that windshield made riding a whole different experience. It looked ugly on that bike but boy it worked great. I'm guessing there will be some compromise on appearance.
Sounds almost identical to my story, except the sporty I traded in yesterday was an '06 xl1200c (also my first HD and had it since May '15) and my new '16 Bob is denim. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet (picking it up tomorrow) so I can't speak to the buffeting. The sporty never really bothered me, so if my Bob has less, so much the better!
Here's my before and after:
Hope you enjoy yours as much as I plan to enjoy mine!!

Same here, just picked up mine last week. Instead of trading the sporty, trying to sell it private party (hopefully to a friend so it feels like I'm not saying bye)
