I use the modified red Sears jack with no problems., but I always lower the jack to settle it firmly into one of the "lock" positions & always stap 'er down. No matter how nit-noid or inconvenient it may seem for something "simple", if my bike's in the air, it's strapped down.
Another J&S recommend. By the time you buy a Sears jack, stand and straps, your pretty much at the cost of the J&S. And you avoid all the costs for fallen bikes.
Solid as a rock. I've climbed on my bike while its on the stand. It ain't moving.
Under all circumstances always, repeat always strap your bike down. Handy lit table, use straps, yes, I have known of a air cylinder fail when the bar is up and was being let down by the mechanic. Any mechanical thing can fail, to the two guys giving bad advice about using a J&S jack without straps, I beg to differ. Any mechanical thing can fail!
I use a Handy electric and strap my bike down even when the bike is just sitting there, you just never know. Is a J&S jack more safe or as safe than a Handy electric lift table, hell no. It is your bike, do with it as you please.
