I have heard that you can shop your stock shocks... is this true? how do you do it... is it like the ricer mods where you just cut a coil off??? I want to drop my A$$ of my bike and roll low......
Pretty much the process, but I would NOT recommend doing it yourself. Check out MB Products at http://mbstore.biz/mbshocks.html and then click on shortening, you'll see what's involved. The spring and shock shaft are shortened, I think up to 2".
I had the stock HD 12.5" shocks on my Dyna cut down to 11.5" which really lowered the back end a bit, without any huge hit to the ride, no hit to the handling. The whole thing cost $69.00 + shipping, the only bitch is that you don't have your bike for a week or so unless you have another set of junk shocks to put on while yours are being worked on. Great people to work with, quick turn around and a whole lot cheaper than buying a new set of whatever length Progressives or other shocks, only to find out you don't like the ride, looks, whatever.
wow! this is from 07... i have since cut down prob 20 sets of shocks... typically 1 or 2 coils out of them, belt sander to smooth out, and then coat them... these on my biek at the time where shortened stock shocks i coated... have since replaced with a new set progressive sent me
I have a question for JRK about shortening shocks, if I may ask. When you shorten shocks, does the overall travel remain the same? I assume the ride gets stiffer, but because your shortening the spring as well as the rod, but is the travel altered. Example... If you have a 13 inch shock with 2.5 inches travel, the shocks would bottom out at 10.5 inches. If I shortened them 1 inch, would the 12 inch shocks now bottom out at 9.5? ie, too short for a Dyna.
